The Mayans, without the aid of telescopes,
watched the night sky and created at least twenty different calendars,
based on the movements of Venus, in particular, but also on Mars, and
other heavenly bodies. They could see into the Milky Way and knew where
its center was. They called that center, “The Galactic Butterfly.”
The Hunab Ku. In the Mayan language Hun means One state of being and
Ku means God. So we could roughly translate this glyph to mean “You
are one with God.” Other translations are “One Giver of
Movement and Measure,” “One Source of Limits and Energy.”
Hunab Ku, as the “supreme God and ultimate Creator” acted
as the gateway to other galaxies—a whirling disk or Mother Womb
constantly creating new stars. And a new consciousness energy. Does
your group sense an “opening of the ‘Worlds’?”
The Maya sensed harmonic resonance and balance throughout every corner
of their existence. They named and honored Cycles and Ages. How has
your group, your community marked time? How have you cycled? What may
be about to dramatically change? Do you sense being carried on an updraft
of cosmic wind, as Hunab Ku suggests? Green: The Hunab Ku lies at the
center of the book from which it’s taken, Hunab Ku: 77 Sacred
Symbols for Balancing Body and Spirit. Let it hold and center you as
well.
