The labyrinth from Chartres Cathedral in France was build around 1200 CE. Dr. Lauren Artress, in Walking the Sacred Path, claims labyrinths are divine imprints. Unlike mazes, you can’t get lost in them. There is one way in and the same way out again. A six petaled brass and copper rose now marks the center. At one time, however, it held the design of three figures: Theseus, Ariadne and the Minotaur, the three main characters in the Greek labyrinth legend: the seeker, the helper and the challenger. As you, all seekers, (Theseus) think about these various roles, particularly focus on how “the (Minotaur) challenger” furthers your process? And how and why the helper (Ariadne) offers her golden string. Walking labyrinths can be an initiation path.
